How closely does the British media follow presidential elections in the United States?
Q. In the US, very few people know the names of the major British political parties, let alone the name of the Prime Minister unless you take the initiative to find out. Granted, elections in Great Britain have much shorter campaigning periods and thus less time to publicize, but I'm curious to find out how many people recognize the political happenings in the US outside of the War in Iraq. Also, do British citizens tend to vote strictly along party lines or does it vary candidate to candidate?

What is the possibility of British soldiers dying compared to the US?
Q. The British have around 3,000 troops in Iraq - the US has in excess of 150,000. Do you think there are no British casaulties due to a small force number or due to inactive involvement in the war?

A. British soldier are primarly stationed in Southern Iraq around Basra which is virtually completly Shiite. The Shiite's along with the Kurds up North were brutally surpressed by Sadam, who favored his Sunni background. The Shiite's for the most part were happy to see Saddam go. Thus, there isn't as much violence. The middle portion of Iraq, Baghdad, Balad, Ramadi, Falujah, are all melting pots of Sunni and Shiite's. This mixing of the two sects of Islam sparks sectarian violence which spills over and affects everyone. Citizens, soldiers, police, everyone. Not to mention the obvious power struggle for control of Iraq is in Baghdad, the capital.

A. The British enlisted the support of colonial militias in this war, although colony governments gave reluctant support, more interested in defending their territory than joining expeditions against the French beyond their borders. When the British sought to help pay for the war by levying duties on such commodities as molasses on the colonies, the stage was set for a conflict that would lead to the American Revolutionary War.
